Courses schedule

All e-learning courses provided in the framework of the of the Project “Information technologies: research and their interdisciplinary applications” will be presented in English using the model of ‘blended-learning’. The planned duration of each course is 16 weeks.

Each course begins with an inaugural meeting (introductory course) in the premises of the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. During this meeting the participants will be informed about the organization of the course, and introduced to the computer educational platform that will be used during the course.

For each course a multimedia textbook will be available. Moreover, the lecturer will be available on-line for consultations at least once a week at the pre-announced time.

Each course ends with a final meeting during which exams or other means of the verification of the knowledge acquired by the participants of the course will take place. The form of these means will be announced for each course separately.

1. „Introduction to machine learning and data mining” – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


2. Introduction to discrete mathematics and algorithms – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


3. Game and decision theory – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


4. Biological inspirations in computational intelligence algorithms – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


5. Monte Carlo methods: algorithms & applications – course corresponds with 15 hours of lectures and 15 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 2 ECTS.


6. Java for science – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


7. Discrete optimization – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.


8. Advanced statistical methods – course corresponds with 30 hours of lectures and 30 hours of classes on full-time studies (1 semester). 4 ECTS.
